Mome’s journey into wellness wasn’t just a career shift—it was a personal transformation shaped by life’s most unexpected challenges. After suffering a life-altering stroke following the natural birth of her daughter, Teamo, she spent two weeks in the ICU. It was during this time that a conversation with her physiotherapist changed her perspective on health forever. She realized that true wellness wasn’t just about looking good on the outside but about nurturing the body and mind from within.
Determined to take control of her health, Mome began researching the difference between wellness and health, exploring ways to maintain a balanced body and mind. This passion led her to create Momewellness, a brand rooted in organic, natural healing. What started as a single product six years ago has now grown into a successful wellness brand, offering six in-house products that have reached consumers across South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Swaziland, and even Dubai.
“Our unique selling point? Our products are organic, yielding healthy results within 3-7 days without adverse effects,” Mome explains. “Instead, our clients experience improved health, increased energy, a faster metabolism, and reduced stubborn body fat.”
While her brand has expanded rapidly, the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. High shipping costs and damaged products have been major roadblocks in international distribution. “We’re actively working with private shipping companies to resolve these issues. Our clients deserve accessible, affordable, and reliable shipping solutions,” she says.
As a mother, wellness isn’t just a business for Mome—it’s a lifestyle she instills in her family. Open conversations with her children, TK (Thando), Khumo, and Teamo, about wellness and mental health are a priority. “I want my kids to understand the importance of self-care, stress management, and emotional intelligence. I’ve learned that taking care of one’s mental and physical health is crucial, and I want them to adopt these values early on,” she shares.
Mome’s daily routine is a reflection of her dedication to self-care and mindfulness. “Starting my day in silence prepares my mind for life’s challenges. Meditation, prayer, and reading books on entrepreneurship and wellness empower me daily,” she says. She is also mindful of her surroundings, the company she keeps, and the food she eats, knowing that these factors significantly impact her mental strength and physical health.
Beyond personal wellness, Mome is passionate about raising awareness around mental health, boundaries, and family dynamics. “I believe in creating a safe space for our families, eliminating unnecessary conflict, and promoting positivity. Surrounding myself with love and peace inspires me daily,” she says.
Her deep-rooted interest in beauty, fashion, and body health began in childhood. “Recently, my mom returned a book I purchased in grade three—it was about healthy eating. That childhood interest has made prioritising my physical well-being easier,” she recalls. However, she acknowledges that wellness is more than just physical health. “I’ve had to learn emotional intelligence to understand my needs and maintain stability for my family and business.”
Reaching this milestone in her career has made Mome more intentional about her mental well-being. She values time with loved ones, practices self-care, and is mindful of her thoughts and emotions. “I enjoy exploring new places, embracing each day with love and kindness, and taking time for myself,” she says.
As a public figure, maintaining balance is essential. “I stay grounded by meditating, praying, and reading about body wellness. When I’m out for work or leisure, I carry a positive spirit, encouraging others to align their mind, body, and soul. I avoid conflicts by surrounding myself with emotionally intelligent individuals and addressing issues with calmness,” she says.
Mome’s transition from a fashion stylist and entrepreneur to a wellness advocate was not just a career change—it was an evolution of growth and understanding. “For a decade, I made a living making people look good and feel good without truly understanding how they felt inside. When I started Momewellness six years ago, it was out of a passion for healing the body from the inside so you could glow on the outside.”
Today, she finds greater fulfilment in her work. “The biggest difference now is how humbled and happy I feel to be doing what I do daily—helping people heal their bodies from the inside, improving their mental health, sleep quality, moods, memory, and eating habits, all while increasing their energy and metabolism with our moringa-infused organic products,” she explains.
Coming from a background in styling for TV productions, music videos, commercials, and print billboards—and even working as a print and TV commercial model—Mome spent over a decade working with stars. She retired from the industry in August 2018 after styling the SA Castle Lite Hip-Hop Herstory live concert, which celebrated women in hip-hop.
“My styling journey began with music videos, and I had to teach myself empathy through my transition into wellness,” she reflects. “Wellness isn’t just about putting clothing pieces together—it’s about ensuring our products give clients true mental and physical health benefits. My team has learned that empathy is at the core of everything we do at Momewellness.”
Through her brand, Mome has created more than just a wellness business, she has built a movement, inspiring people to prioritise their health from the inside out.
