Fashion is not ready-made and all fit for wear right away. It still needs tweaks and fixes here and there. Here are some hacks to make that happen.
For both oversized shirts or shirts which are too tight: If you are in the mood for something breezy or you have this shirt that you just have to wear somehow even though it doesn’t seem to button up right, then sport a slip inside and forget about the buttons. You are all set to look hip and fun.
2. Not the season for scarves?: Ever had that dream of wearing that one great scarf that will make your whole outfit a whole lot better than it was in the first place. Sadly, the sun makes a scarf a hassle though. Maybe a scarf shouldn’t be around your neck but it can always substitute a belt or make a cool bandana.
3. Tie-dyed shoes?: It’s always such a fuss to take care of pure white sneakers and after all of that, you might think white sneakers might not be ‘all that’ anyway. Duct tape, a big tub of water and a couple of spray paints is all that you need. Strategically cover the heels and bottoms of your shoes with the tape and then get your water ready by spraying in all the colours. For the finale, put your shoes in the water and voila, you have your new tie-dyed shoes.
4. Not ready to throw out your old socks yet: Nobody is a stranger to socks with holes or those worn out with time or simply seems to be missing its pair but you still find it sticking behind on the back of your closet? Take a scissor handy so that you can cut the rim and the toes of the sock and slip it on your coffee cup. You have a stylish coffee sleeve to go.
5. They can also be the perfect fun hairbands you were always looking for.
6. Could also make a cool choker
Not a fan of oversized t-shirts either?: Oversized t-shirts might be a good choice for slumber parties, but what about a night out? This won’t take more than a fancy belt around and a scarf, for it to be a casual frock.
8. Not a fan of turtlenecks: turtlenecks are not for everyone. So get that turtleneck out of your closet and get your scissors out. You can get creative and cut through the top of your top until it is the cutest off shoulder top you had.
9.Want to make use of the extra buttons you get for shirts?: You cannot deny that some of these buttons are just as cute as they say they are and why ignore them until you find a button missing on your shirt but realise that you don’t know where they are anyway. Get those buttons out and hot glue them on a pair of hooks. You have a pair of new earrings and for no cost too.
10. It’s all about how you tie it: Ever thought a bandana could make a cool top?Depends on how you tie it. It’s good if you have a slip inside for this though. Fold your bandana into a triangle and tie it around your upper waist, which leaves the other end of the bandana which you can tuck up into the side of a necklace you might be wearing. Now, you’re wearing a cool top and you look nothing but classy.
11. Do you want a new sundress?: Don’t go running to the stores but rummage your closet to look if you have any long skirt in there. You might usually wear it on your waist but let’s see how it looks pulled up to your chest. There’s your custom made summer dress and you can add sleeves if you like.
12. You know how ponchos are made: Are you looking at a fabulous scarf which you wish could come in the form of a top? Then there’s nothing stopping you from taking scissors and making a hole in the middle of the scarf. Slip your head through that hole and you are wearing a fabulous poncho.
13. Tuck one end of your scarf to the bottom of your slip and start swirling. When you get to the other end, you will find that you are in chic crop top. Tuck in the other end and you are done.
14. Wanna get your jeans a little looser?: Find that you just can’t button your pants or jeans feel a little too tight? It only takes an elastic band. Slip the elastic band through the button hole and then pull it back over the button. Adjust your shirt so that no one but only you know that you are comfier than ever.
15. If that zipper is sticking out: After a while, your jeans tend to get worn out and leads to the zipper showing when you wear your jeans. Just iron out the jean edge of your zipper before adding a bit of starch. Iron again and your jeans will be as good as new.
16. Stuck in between: Don’t we all face that problem where out of no where, your bag zipper just doesn’t zip all the way. Here’s wax paper to the rescue. Rub the paper across both the ends of the zipper and then, you will find that your zipper zips up alright.
17. When it comes to chains: If you are someone who has spent most of your time untangling your chains from each other, then you would know what I’m talking about. Grab a bunch of straws for a quick solution to this situation. Take a chain and start putting one end through the straw. When it’s out, clasp it shut to the other end. Do the same with the other chains and you will not have to face this problem again.
18. Don’t throw out your faded jeans just yet: Take a bucket of hot water, coffee powder and a nylon sock. Fill up your sock with coffee and drop it in the bucket. When the coffee has seeped well enough in the water, drop your jeans in as well. 8 hours later, get your jeans out and rinse them in cold water. Your old jeans has been rejuvenated.
19. If you want your tights to last longer: Take your brand new tights and dump them in a vat of water. Then throw them right into your freezer in a ziplock bag for a night. You can then have your tights which will stay lint-free and never lose its colour.
20. When you lose your earring back: It’s not anything new to lose the back of your earring and then you find that you can’t wear those earrings just because of that. Not to worry, grab a packet of dummies and cut one small end for your earring. Unusual but effective.
21. Zip your own zipper: Find it hard to reach for the zip at the back of your dress? Use hot glue and wrap one end of a shoe lace on your zip. Now you just have to pull up the shoe lace and you are all zipped up. Tuck the shoelace inside the neck of your dress afterwards.
22. Are you squeaking?: If you find that your sneakers seem to have more to say than you thought, we have a solution for that. To stop your sneakers from squeaking, either you can put some baby powder under the soles of the shoes if the squeaks come from within or rub the bottoms with sandpaper if it comes from outside.
23. Get rid of itchy sweaters: Put your sweater in bucket of water with two spoons of white vinegar for fifteen minutes. Drain out the water and then take the sweater to be massaged in conditioner. Put in a ziplock bag and put it in the freezer. Take it out for the end results. Say bye to itchy sweaters.
Hope these hacks will help you reimagine your closet and make a change.
