In an engaging conversation with Nandini, Alessio Filippelli, a prominent figure in the fashion industry, shared insights into his remarkable journey. Here are some highlights of the interview.
When asked about what it takes to be on the cover page of so many magazines, Alessio replied , “It requires a blend of hard work, authenticity, and a commitment to your craft. It’s about consistently delivering value and staying true to your vision. Building genuine relationships in the industry and maintaining a positive attitude also play a significant role. The cover of a magazine reflects both your professional achievements and the personal values you bring to the table.”
Alessio shared about struggles he faced in the industry how he staying true to himself was important to him he said “Early on, I encountered situations where I felt that my creative vision was being compromised for commercial success. It was a struggle to maintain my authenticity while also trying to make a name for myself. However, I learned that staying true to who I am, even in the face of adversity, ultimately led to the most fulfilling successes.”
He shared a message for the aspiring make models and managers that also want to step into the fashion world he said “Believe in yourself and be patient with the process. The fashion world is highly competitive, but there’s always room for fresh perspectives and new talent. Stay true to who you are, and don’t compromise your values for short-term gains. Networking is crucial—build connections with people who inspire you and share your vision. Lastly, always be willing to learn and adapt; the industry is constantly evolving, and so should you.”
When discussing his sources of inspiration, Alessio highlighted the influence of individuals who use their platforms to create meaningful change. “One such figure is Virgil Abloh, whose work transcended fashion and influenced broader cultural conversations. He was a visionary who broke down barriers and challenged the status quo, all while staying grounded in his principles. His commitment to inclusivity and pushing creative boundaries inspires me to continue striving for innovation and social impact in my own work.”
Given the chance to change something about the industry, Alessio expressed his desire for more inclusivity and diversity. “While there has been progress, there’s still a long way to go in ensuring that all voices are heard and represented, regardless of race, gender, or background. I believe in fostering an environment where creativity is not limited by societal norms but rather celebrated for its uniqueness. The industry should be a place where everyone feels they belong and can thrive.”
Alessio is also a strong advocate for LGBTQI+ rights. He explained, “Advocacy for LGBTQI+ rights is a cause close to my heart. I’ve used my platform to raise awareness and support initiatives that promote equality and acceptance. This includes partnering with organizations that focus on mental health and human rights, as well as incorporating inclusive practices in all my projects. My goal is to create spaces where everyone, regardless of their identity, feels valued and empowered. True progress in our industry comes when we champion diversity and stand up for the rights of all individuals.”
Motivation plays a key role in Alessio’s career, and he finds it in his desire to create meaningful change. “I’ve always believed that art and fashion can be powerful tools for social impact. Knowing that my work can inspire others, challenge perceptions, or bring attention to important causes drives me to constantly push the envelope. I’m also motivated by the people I work with—their passion, creativity, and dedication fuel my own.”
He shared his thoughts on balancing creativity with work and how it helps him to work more effectively, he said, “Balancing creativity with business is about finding harmony between passion and pragmatism. I’ve learned that while creativity drives innovation, understanding the business landscape is crucial for sustaining it. I approach each project with a clear vision, but I also consider the practical aspects—market trends, audience engagement, and long-term goals. This balance allows me to create work that is not only artistically fulfilling but also successful in the marketplace.”
Collaboration has been essential to Alessio’s success, and he emphasizes its importance. “Collaboration is at the heart of everything I do. I’ve always believed that the best ideas come from diverse perspectives coming together. Working with talented individuals from different backgrounds and disciplines has enriched my creative process and led to some of my most successful projects. Collaboration fosters innovation, and it’s through these partnerships that I’ve been able to bring my visions to life on a larger scale.”

As for the future, Alessio hinted at exciting projects on the horizon. “The future is incredibly exciting, and I’m currently working on a few projects that are the biggest of my career so far. While I can’t share too many details just yet, I can say that these ventures are deeply aligned with my vision and values. They represent the culmination of years of experience and passion, and I believe they will have a significant impact on the industry. I’m looking forward to unveiling them when the time is right.”
